Joe Leavy emerged as the star of the Brighton Festival by winning another feature race.

The 16-year-old apprentice from the West Midlands produced a strong finish to guide 9/2 shot Alcazan to the Harry Bloom Memorial ‘Brighton Bullet’ Handicap.

The six-furlong sprint was keenly fought until Leavy hit the front late on.

It was a third win in six outings at the Star Sports Festival for the son of trainer Barry Leavy.

His successes included Thursday’s top event, the Brighton Challenge Cup.

Albion chairman Tony Bloom - whose club have a habit of spotting young talent in the football world - was among the crowd enjoying a sun-drenched afternoon of racing.

The Brighton Bullet is staged in memory of his grandfather Harry, the former Albion vice-chairman.

Eve Johnson-Houghton, who trains Brighton Mile winner Uncle Dick, had another success as odds-on favourite Rokuni dominated the starsportsbet.co.uk Maiden Stakes.

Letter Of The Law, who had a second place as part of what looked a John O’Shea tactical masterplan earlier in the week, scored a win of his own this time.

The five-year-old made all the running and finished the job at 5/1 with Gina Mangan in the saddle in Star Sports Classified Stakes.
