Inter Miami midfielder Diego Gomez is on the Albion radar after an impressive start to life in MLS.
He is expected to sign for the Seagulls in January.
The Herons signed Gomez as part of the league’s Under-22 initiative last year.
West Ham United were also reportedly interested in Gomez's services this summer after previously holding talks with Miami earlier this spring.
Gomez, 21, was a two-time league champion with his native Libertad, before also winning the 2023 Leagues Cup with Inter Miami last summer. A versatile midfielder, he has tallied three goals and five assists in 14 total appearances in Tata Martino’s squad.
Alongside international stars Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez, and Jordi Alba, Gomez has helped Inter Miami fly high in the Eastern Conference of MLS this season.
Prior to his MLS move, Gomez was a frequent contributor for Libertad, tallying six goals and four assists in 52 combined appearances.
He featured in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana competitions, in addition to the Primera Division’s Apertura and Clausura seasons.
His international involvement with Paraguay’s Under-23 men’s national team at the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament earlier this year helped the South American country qualify for the Olympic Games, where they were quarter-fialists.
He captained the squad, scoring five goals and registering two assists in seven appearances as Carlos Jara Saguier’s squad went unbeaten in six of their seven qualifying matches (4-2-1).
Debuting for Paraguay’s senior team at 19-years-old, Gomez also has three World Cup Qualifying appearances under his belt and seven international caps overall.
Gomez might still be early in his MLS career, but a move to the Premier League might be an opportunity too good to pass up.
