Carlos Baleba could be handed a new Premier League role.

The midfielder played at centre-back in the friendly against Kashima Antlers and was at left-back at QPR.

Head coach Fabian Huerzeler said it was more than a case of finding minutes for the former Lille man and likes him in deeper roles.

Full-backs often slot into midfield under Huerzeler and Baleba did well at Loftus Road.

The Albion head coach said: “I think he is an option. He can play there.

“He is very good against the ball. He is very athletic. He has good speed, he is good in one-against-one duels.

“And, with the ball, when he sees the game in front of him, he can play very good vertical passes and he can create a dynamic from behind because of his dynamic runs. I think he will be an option there.”

Valentin Barco, who has impressed at left-back, missed the QPR game due to a minor fitness issue.
