Albion kept an unthreatened clean sheet in their latest pre-season test.

Their only goal came out of their defensive work but they were less potent than in their goal-laden wins in Tokyo.

Amid a compact defensive display, this is how they fared as individuals.

Jason Steele 7/10

Confident on crosses, not tested with shots and as calm and assured as usual with the ball at his feet, looking to go long on occasion. Clean sheets or conceding goals are often associated with the goalkeeper, even though they are a team achievement or failing, and he will be happy with the nil.

Joel Veltman 7/10

Started at right-back and shifted to right of centre. The customary sound work at the back and got well forward on a couple of occasions to good effect.

Adam Webster 7/10

Recovered well a couple of times in the first half when van Hecke got into tricky situations. Was reprieved in the second half when he himself gave the ball away.

Jan Paul van Hecke 7/10

Alert to possible QPR sporadic forays, always looked to play and produced a tidy performance.

Carlos Baleba 7/10

After a centre-back outing against Kashima, this time he was at left-back and did well, bringing the ball forward with composure on occasions. He could be set for a big season – but in which role?

James Milner 6.5/10

Skippered the side and anchored midfield again. His passing was not always precise but it was another solid performance. Booked for a foul when QPR launched a counter-attack.

Yasin Ayari 7/10

Some eye-catching moments as he started in midfield and looked to get forward. Slid a precise pass to send Minteh in on goal. Is he playing his way towards a Prem place?

Yankuba Minteh 8/10

Very dangerous again wide on the right or coming in off his wing. Was unfortunate not to score early on and played a huge part in the only goal with his hard chasing.

Kaoru Mitoma 7/10

The final touch was not quite there for him but he is coming back to form and was an intermittent threat. Tested the keeper with a first-half shot.

Jeremy Sarmiento 6.5/10

Miscued a great chance in the first half but later tested Nardi in what was generally quite a positive display.

Danny Welbeck 7/10

Mainly involved in link-up play and was very calm from the penalty spot for the only goal.

SUBS - Jack Hinshelwood 6.5/10

Great to see him back f rom long-term injury and he had time in both full-back berths.

Mats Wieffer 6.5/10

A first view of the summer signing and he got stuck into a couple of tackles while venturing well forward on occasion.

Ibrahim Osman 7/10

Given a half-hour run down the left and looked quite dangerous.

Albion made six further changes for the final 15 minutes, of whom Amario Cozier-Duberry caught the eye with a brilliant first touch and flashing shot wide while Mark O’Mahony was quite a lively presence up front.
