One of Britain’s most unique and historic racecourses, Brighton hosts its three day Festival of Racing from August 7 to August 9, and it looks set to be a cracker.

The highlight of day one is the Brighton Mile Challenge Trophy. A contest steeped in history, having first been run in 1947, the late Queen Elizabeth II was twice a winning owner of this race.

Trainer Tony Carroll reigned supreme on the opening day of the festival in 2015, landing a remarkable four winners on the day - he’ll be looking to add to his tally of Festival winners this time around.

Keep an eye out for the vibrant Ultraswing, an exciting gypsy jazz band who will be roaming the racecourse providing a musical soundtrack to compliment the pulsating action out on the course.

Day two is Ladies Day, with style aplenty both on and off the track.

The racing highlight is the Challenge Cup, Brighton’s oldest race, first run in 1849.

A classy lady in her own right, Park Top was a dual winner of this race in the 1960s - she went on to finish second in the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe, one of most prestigious horse races anywhere in the world.

This year’s renewal of the Challenge Cup looks sure to be a competitive affair and there will be fierce competition off the track as the fashionistas battle it out for ‘Best Dressed Lady’ award.

Alongside the coveted title and prestige, there’ll be a £250 prize for the winner. Charleston Dancers will add a splash of fun and pizzazz to the day, alongside Swing music courtesy of the brilliant ‘Moxie Dolls’ - Ladies Day really is the place to be!

The festival draws to a close with a third day of enthralling flat racing action - Friday’s feature is the Brighton Bullet. Previously known as the ‘Sprint’ and the ‘Dash’, this race is all about speed.

The last two editions have been won by Newmarket maestro William Haggas, most recently with the progressive Pink Crystal who was subsequently victorious in Listed company and was placed in a Group 3 contest at Ascot.

Typically it takes a well-balanced horse to handle the unique test that Brighton poses - a sharp left-hand bend precedes a steep downhill run into the home straight where the equine athletes hit top gear, propelling themselves forward with every stride.

It is a sight to behold and we have been treated to some thrilling finishes to the Bullet over the years - hopefully this year will be no exception.

The Festival Grand Opener on Wednesday 7th August is the delicious starter that will really whet the appetite. Ladies Day on Thursday 8th August is the knockout main course, while the Festival Finale on Friday 9th August is the dessert that will send you home with a smile on your face.

Racegoers can enjoy all three courses of equine action for just £40! Purchasing a 3-day Festival Pass in advance of racing will give you access to 3 days of quality racing and entertainment, as well as access to the various bars and eateries on track.

For those looking to make their visit that bit extra special, there are a variety of hospitality options available.

Brighton’s Star Sports Festival of Racing is one of the highlights of the Sussex sporting and social calendar, and there’ll be something for everyone across the three days of action - we look forward to welcoming you.
