Juio Enciso apologised to his Olympic team manager after his reaction to being substituted.
But the Albion forward has a quarter-final to look forward to.
He helped Paraguay beat Mali 1-0 to secure a tie against Egypt.
Their recovery from an opening 5-0 defeat by Japan included beating Israel 4-2, when Enciso scored.
He was clearly unhappy to be taken off against Mali with his side ahead but coming under pressure.
Enciso said: "Obviously I apologised to the coach.
“I reacted in haste. I didn't want to come off.
“They were attacking with everything and I thought that, if I had a ball on the counter-attack, I could take advantage.
“Then I saw the change and I really couldn't believe it.”
Enciso showed his annoyance when he reached the bench but the issue was sorted in the changing room after the game.
He said: “The older players spoke to me.
“Many people look up to me and I can give a bad image.
“I apologise. I'm not that kind of person.
“I can help the team a lot, I'm feeling very good."
