Fabian Huerzeler has spelled out what he and Albion can learn from their trip to Japan.
He said his side were given a tough test second time out by Tokyo Verdy.
Goals from Jan Paul van Hecke, Yankuba Minteh, Simon Adingra and Jeremy Sarmiento secured a 4-2 win over the J-League outfit.
Albion beat Kashima Antlers 5-1 in midweek.
Head coach Huerzeler said: “We suffered more than the last game.
“I think the humidity was worse than the last game and we see that in our performance.
“I think we weren't that aggressive. We weren't that fresh like the last game.
“But we tried to stay compact. We tried to control the game.
“They had good transition moments with the ball. They have great players. We saw it. We watched their last two games.
“And they have a really good structure with the ball and also against the ball, so a very disciplined team.
“So it wasn't easy today but, still, we scored four goals. We are happy about the results.
“We know that everything cannot be perfect at this moment of the pre-season.
“We continue working and of course it’s early too.”
Huerzeler said the trip to Tokyo can be of great benefit to the squad going into the new Premier League season.
He added: “We can learn that, if we defend together, if we stand compact, then we will win a lot of balls and have a lot of transition moments.
“In the cases where we try to defend on our own, or if we try to attack on our own, then we are not good.
“And I think this we have to learn really quick.
“With the ball, I think it's the most important that we play together, that we stay connected, that we play easy, that we don't try to do the special things.
“And these are the two learnings on the pitch.
“Besides the pitch. I think that the group build a good relationship between each other.
“They build a good relationship with the staff members.
“I think also me as a coach, I get to learn from day to day better, so I'm really happy about the experience and I just can say ‘Thank you’ to all the people who were really, really friendly to us, very polite, very open, and they tried to make every wish from us possible.”
