Bart Verbruggen is facing a belated return to action after his Euro 2024 endeavours with Holland.

The Albion goalkeeper has an unspecified injury and will have rehab at Lancing when he arrives back from his post-Euros holiday.

Verbruggen would not have made the pre-season trip to Japan anyway due to his international commitments this summer.

His injury is understood not to be serious.

The travelling party includes young England goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, who has fared well on loan in the Championship.

Rushworth was said to be of interest to promoted Ipswich but they have now signed Arijanet Muric from Burnley.

Both Verbruggen and Tom McGill were always due to make belated returns to training given their commitments with Holland and Canada respectively.

Before his departure, Roberto De Zerbi said that would open a window of opportunity for both Rushworth and James Beadle in friendlies.

However Beadle has already rejoined Sheffield Wednesday for a second loan spell.

Albion are preparing to face Kashima Antlers and Tokyo Verdy in Japan but some senior players, including Joao Pedro, have not made the trip.
