Bookies are making Graham Potter their favourite to become the next permanent England manager – if Gareth Southgate steps down.

William Hill are today pricing the former Albion boss at just 11/10 for the job.

He is ahead of Newcastle’s Eddie Howe at 11/4 and Mauricio Pochettino at 4/1.

Jurgen Klopp, who is available after his departure from Liverpool, follows next in the market for William Hill at 7/1, with England under-21 coach Lee Carsley also prominent in the betting at 10/1.

Southgate said it was too early to make big decisions after England lost to Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Potter has not had a club since being sacked by Chelsea more than a year ago.

Lee Phelps, spokesman for William Hill, said: “Speculation about Gareth Southgate’s future as England boss is predictably rife after the country’s defeat to Spain on Sunday evening.

“Graham Potter is the man we expect to be in line for the Three Lions job, and we make him an 11/10 shot to return to the dugout as his country’s manager.

“Eddie Howe’s name has long been touted for the England job, so we’re not sleeping on his chances, making him an 11/4 shot, while another ex-Chelsea man Mauricio Pochettino could be primed for this role at 4/1 after being relieved of his Blues duties at the end of last season.

“Jurgen Klopp is also a former Premier League boss without a team at the moment and is 7/1 to replace Southgate, with Lee Carsley at 10/1 to make the jump from the U21s to the senior team.”

Gambling.com have also sent their odds to The Argus and have the same leading contenders.

They have Potter as the new 5/4 favourite, after previously drifting to 4/1, and have trimmed Howe to 5/2 from 13/2.
