England star Fran Kirby says she could not turn down the chance to join Albion.

The 72-times capped international left Chelsea at the end of last season.

Kirby was keen to stay in the WSL and is excited by what she saw with the Seagulls.

She said: “When I spoke to people at Brighton and they told me how the owner (Tony Bloom) is behind the women’s game and how much they want to invest in it, seeing the facilities, for me it was a really exciting opportunity and one I felt I couldn’t turn down.

“Being still close to home and at a club which really wants to push the women’s game is something I wanted to do.

“If I feel valued in an environment, you know I am going to get the best out of myself.

“When I spoke to Brighton, they were so complimentary of me as a player and as a person.

“For me feeling valued is one of the most important things as a footballer.

“I felt that as soon as I spoke to them on the phone and got to know the people around the building.”

Managing director of women’s and girls’ football Zoe Johnson said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Fran to the club.

“She arrives as one of the most decorated English footballers of all time, playing an integral role in Chelsea’s recent dominance, as well as on the international stage having been a part of England’s Euro 2022 win.

“Her experience on the pitch will be just as important off it and we have no doubt that she will help us take a significant step towards our long-term targets.”

The contract length is not being specified.
