Tony Bloom says Albion will ignore background noise – and help Fabian Huerzeler get them as high up the Premier League as possible.

The Seagulls are preparing for the new season against a backdrop of potential rivals struggling to meet profit and sustainability targets.

Some clubs are concerned about points deductions while the legal case involving Manchester City rumbles on in the background.

Albion run a tight ship and appeared to benefit by signing Yankuba Minteh for £30 million from Newcastle in a deal which was under way before the end of June.

But Bloom referred to off-field issues as “background noise” as far as his club are concerned.

The Albion chairman said: “We know what we need to do and we don’t let that affect us. June 30 is a weird situation. With the new rules coming up, that won’t be happening again.

“We just focussed what we have to do to improve our squad between now and the end of August to give Fabian the best tools to get the highest possible position.”

Bloom remains confident about the state of the Premier League in general. He said: “It is the strongest league by far, the most popular league of the most popular sport.

“The Premier League is in a superb position but there are some issues.

“They will get resolved hopefully over the next one or two years.

“I don’t like the idea of clubs having points deducted in the middle of the season.

“However, the Premier League has to apply the rules.

“It would be much better if clubs didn’t put the Premier League in the situation where points deductions are necessary.”
