Jakub Moder believes Poland’s quality of football can get them their first win at Euro 2024.

The Albion midfielder is in contention to start when his nation face Austria.

He looked bright after going on as a half-time substitute in the unfortunate 2-1 defeat by Holland.

Moder expects Austria, who lost just 1-0 to France, to be energetic but says Poland have enough quality to deal with it.

He told a press conference ahead of this afternoon’s game in Berlin (5pm): “Austria play intensely, they run a lot and we have to do the same.

“First of all, we have to stick to our style, play football, stay close to each other in defence, defend in a compact way.

“We have a lot of quality when we have the ball. I think this will be the key.”

Moder is relishing the chance to return to the international stage after a long-term knee injury which ruled him out of the 2022 World Cup.

He wants his team to seize the day and keep their tournament alive.

The former Lech Poznan man said: “Courage in football is the key to winning matches.

“We played bravely against the Netherlands and we will want to play the same against Austria.”

Moder sees midfield as key and added: “It is often the case that whoever wins the fight for the midfield can dictate the conditions in the match.

“It was a bit like that with the Netherlands, because the opponent kept the ball longer and the central midfielders were very active.”
