Steve Clarke said Scotland will make “at least one change” against Switzerland.
But the head coach was giving very little away as he spoke ahead of the second group fixture.
Scotland face Switzerland in Cologne this evening (8pm).
Clarke gave generally short, sharp answers at his eve-of-match press conference at Euro 2024.
It appears the expectation is he will bring Billy Gilmour into his starting line-up.
The Albion midfielder was introduced midway through the second half of their opening 5-1 defeat by Scotland.
Clarke was widely criticised, or at least questioned, for leaving Gilmour out of his XI on Friday.
He played down that decision after the game but hinted he would make a different call this time.
Scotland probably need four points from two games if they are to go through.
Clarke told the media: “Everyone fit and available. Ryan Porteous obviously won’t play, so at least one change.”
Asked whether Gilmour starts this time, he replied: “We have to start better and get a good foothold in the game.”
Which, again, hints at a change and the inclusion of a player who takes good care of the ball in the Premier League and international football.
But confirmation either way will come at about 7pm this evening.
The comment about “at least one change” appeared to be said with a dry sense of humour given Porteous starts a two-game ban after his red card against Germany.
Maybe it was not so surprising Clarke had so little to say in his press conference.
Reporters could not claim they had not been warned.
At one point in proceedings, he had told them: “Very impressed with the Swiss. They were excellent, really good in first half and controlled second half well.
“When they needed late goal, they managed to do that.
“They’re a difficult opponent, I expect a difficult game. For us, it’s to regroup and go again. It’s that simple.
“It’s about doing better, working better in the game.
“We thought we were well prepared for Germany. Obviously we weren’t. This time, I think it’s better not to say too much.”
Grant Hanley is likely to come in for Porteous.
Pascal Gross went on as a half-time sub for Germany and is expected to again be on the bench when they face Hungary in their second game (5pm).
The hosts are determined to top their group with a view to how the path through the knockout stages would look.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann said: “Everyone is healthy, everyone is fit, there is nothing surprising or negative to report.”
