Jeremy Sarmiento is putting thoughts of his club future on hold - as he aims to join Albion's international roll of honour.

The Seagulls forward celebrated his 22nd birthday in style by scoring his first international goal as Ecuador beat Honduras 2-1 in a friendly ahead of the Copa America.

Sarmiento spent last season on loan at West Bromwich and Ipswich, helping the latter win promotion to the Premier League.

It is understood Ipswich would be happy to take him back for their return to the top flight.

But Sarmiento has eyes on the forthcoming Copa and will then have a new boss to impress at Albion.

He was used on the left of the attack in the win over Honduras in Connecticut after an unsuccessful experiment as a false No.9 previously.

Sarmiento said after the game: “I have pre-season to go back to Brighton and then we will see what happens.”

Albion boss Fabian Huerzeler will keep a close eye on the Copa during a trip to the USA.

Sarmiento believes Ecuador, even without injured Pervis Estupinan, can be shock winners of the continental competition.

Albion duo Alexis Mac Allister and Simon Adingra have both won major international competitions in the last two years.

Sarmiento said: “We have a young team with a mix of experience as well which helps the young lads a lot, like me.

“We are coming here with everything we have got for this tournament, which is very important for us.

“Why not? Dream big and maybe win it.”

Ecuador open their Copa campaign by facing Venezuela in Santa Clara, California.
