Birthday boy Billy Gilmour wants to take his most consistent season yet all the way into Euro 2024.

The Albion midfielder hopes to make Scotland’s starting XI as they open the tournament by facing hosts Germany in Munich tomorrow.

He does so after a season of progress as a regular in the Seagulls side.

Gilmour said: "I've been enjoying my football.

“It's probably the first season I've played back-to-back in so many games.

"I'm learning and staying strong and waiting for the opportunity, this season I'm trying to grab it.

"I just need to keep pushing myself and try to get the best out of myself every day."

Gilmour revealed competition among the squad has extended to games of golf and darts around the training camp.

And that extends to the battle for places in the XI.

He said: "We as a group, we're really good with the new boys coming in. Tommy Conway is a good boy, works hard and deserved his call-up.

“Whenever someone comes into the squad we want to welcome them.

"It's a competitive midfield, we all want to play every game, fighting against each other. It's a good competitiveness, we all want to start but at the end of the day it's up to the manager.

"It's up to the manager. Of course I want to start and play every game possible.

"If I did get the opportunity to walk out at the opening game at the Euros it would be amazing, it's the stuff of dreams really.

"We've got a good bunch of boys that know when to have a little bit of fun but also when to take it seriously.

"I think we're all settled, we've been around each other long enough."

Gilmour celebrated his 23rd birthday on Tuesday.

He said: “There was birthday cake and they sang Happy Birthday to me at dinner – that was really nice!”
