Fabian Hurzeler would be intrigued by a move to the Premier League.

But the exciting young coach being strongly linked with Albion would come at a cost and be a calculated gamble.

German sources are convinced the Seagulls are interested in taking the St Pauli head coach to the Amex as successor to Roberto De Zerbi.

Hurzeler, 31, guided St Pauli to the second-tier title in his first full season in charge and has similar footballing ideas to RDZ.

He is a big admirer of De Zerbi and is understood to have watched as many Albion matches as possible while the Italian was in charge.

He was at the Amex over Christmas to get a close view of the 4-2 win over Tottenham, which is widely regarded as one of De Zerbi’s finest tactical hours as Seagulls boss.

Hurzeler is ambitious, is fluent in English and would love to test himself in the Prem.

But he recently signed a two-year deal with the Hamburg-based club and has been heavily involved with developing the current squad.

St Pauli would be loathe to suffer the disruption of losing their head coach as they prepare to return to the top tier.

But any compensation is likely to be well within Albion’s financial reach.

An Argus source in Hamburg said: “He is a huge fan of De Zerbi and watched all Brighton games.

“He visited at Christmas so it is possible that people at Brighton know him.

“Brighton are definitely interested.”
