Albion produced the team performance required to beat Aston Villa and halt their poor recent run.
They went for experience in the starting XI and changed their tactical set-up to cope with a dangerous Villa side.
They also had the most eye-catching performer on the day and showed know-how to see the job through once they had gone ahead.
This is now they fared as individuals.
Bart Verbruggen 7/10
Not exactly busy once he had held an early drive from Diaby but his improvement with the ball at his feet was noticeable and he set an attack moving with good distribution out of hand after catching a cross.
Joel Veltman 7/10
Very sound down the right and moved forward when Albion were in possession to stretch the game.
Adam Webster 8/10
A high-quality return to the side up against the dangerous Watkins. He looked comfortable on the ball as Albion passed from deep and he defended well.
Lewis Dunk 8/10
Helped keep a lively Villa side very quiet while also mixing things up with his passing. Was often looking for the long ball to Adingra and produced a beauty early on. Defensively, he was well beaten on one occasion by Watkins but help was at hand.
Igor 7/10
Was handed left-back duties and gave a solid performance. Charged forward to cross for the disallowed Gross goal.
Pascal Gross 7/10
Very unfortunate to see his goal ruled out by the narrowest of margins and was denied by Olsen when he seemed to have done enough. On both occasions he produced some great running off the ball.
Billy Gilmour 7/10
Operated just in front of the defence to give extra insurance against dangerous Villa. Some lovely footwork on the ball at times, took good care of possession and a clever through ball for Adingra sticks in the memory.
Facundo Buonanotte 6.5/10
Operated infield, looking to get involved in build-up play, and was quite positive.
Joao Pedro 8/10
A big threat to Villa as he always looked to commit defenders and make something happen in possession. Reacted well to seeing a poor penalty saved.
Simon Adingra 9/10
Involved in pretty much every attacking highlight for his side, including the penalty, the disallowed goal, Olsen’s three best saves in open play and another couple of efforts himself. Delivered a super cross which deserved better at the far post and generally caused Villa all sorts of problems.
Danny Welbeck 7/10
An afternoon more about fitting into the team pattern than having clear chances to score himself. The one which came his way saw a difficult header drift just the wrong side of the post after he had climbed well to meet Enciso's chipped cross.
Subs - Julio Enciso 7/10
Is always very positive and he added energy as Albion sought the breakthrough.
Jakub Moder and Carlos Baleba N/A
Went on late in midfield to help complete the job.
Valentin Barco N/A
Played a valuable late role taking care of Cash.
