Pervis Estupinan has revealed he has undergone ankle surgery.
The Albion left-back’s season ended early in the 1-1 draw at Burnley a fortnight ago.
He limped off at Turf Moor to round off an injury-disrupted campaign.
Estupinan posted on social media: “It's taken me several days to digest what happened in my last game with the team.
“A week ago I had to face one of the hardest matches of my life and this time it was not on the football field, I had to undergo surgery on my ankle which was dragging on discomfort months ago.
“Since I'm already focused on my recovery I'll work to the fullest and I'm convinced I'll come back stronger."
Among those to wish him well were former team-mate Alexis Mac Allister and his fellow Ecuador defender Piero Hincapie.
Estupinan was limited to 15 Prem starts this season and also played only a limited role in Europe.
His fans in Ecuador will be concerned over his availability for the Copa America, which takes place in June.
