Roberto De Zerbi believes Andy Madley was right not to give Albion a penalty at Brentford.
But he was disappointed his side could only draw 0-0.
Albion had the better of the game at the Gtech Community Stadium, especially in the second half, on their way to a rare clean sheet.
They thought they might have a golden chance to go ahead right at the end of the first half when video assistant Michael Oliver suggested referee Madley check the screen and consider awarding a penalty for Yoann Wissa fouling Lewis Dunk.
But, after careful review, Madley ruled Dunk had fouled first and gave the Bees a free-kick.
He called players to him to explain the decision.
Albion boss De Zerbi said: “I think the referee was correct. Maybe the decision was correct.
“I didn’t see it but my assistant told me in the beginning it’s Dunk who made a foul.
“But I have never seen the referee go to watch the screen and change the VAR decision. I learned something new today.”
De Zerbi felt a point was scant reward for Albion as they missed the chance to climb to seventh place in the table and put pressure on Manchester United, who visit Chelsea this evening.
He said: “I am really pleased with the performance because we are playing as a true Brighton, this game and the Liverpool game.
“I am disappointed for the result.
“We shot 24 times, we created six clear chances, 11 shots on target but we didn’t score and we are disappointed because in our heads we lost two points.”
