Jakub Moder can be a “crucial” contributor to Albion’s push for Europe.
But Roberto De Zerbi will think carefully about what part he is asked to play at Brentford tonight.
Yesterday marked the second anniversary of the day the Poland international saw his blossoming career put on hold by a serious knee injury suffered against Norwich.
He has started recent games against Nottingham Forest and Liverpool and enjoyed advanced midfield roles.
Albion have had a lot of bad luck with injuries so maybe whisper it – but they are arguably lucky Moder is not currently serving a three-game ban.
De Zerbi felt he produced an “amazing performance” at Liverpool and was asked in which role he could most help the team in the coming weeks.
He added: “I have not yet understood yet - but I understand he is an important player.
“A good player. I am very happy for him.
“I don’t know if (tonight) he starts in the first XI because I can’t forget how much time he didn’t play and I won’t take risks with him.
“The same for Lamptey for Welbeck. But in the last part of the season he will be, I think, crucial.”
