Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with interest from Bayern Munich – as an option IF they can’t land their top target.
The Albion head coach continues to feature in reports and speculation ahead of what might be a busy summer in terms of managerial moves across the top European leagues.
Munich-based Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenburg has reminded followers that he understands De Zerbi to be one of Bayern’s preferred options to take over this summer if they cannot prise Xabi Alonso from Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
Plettenburg said De Zerbi is “one of the top favourites for FC Bayern if Alonso's transfer doesn't work out.
"(Bayern sporting director Max) Eberl, a big fan of De Zerbi.
"Bayern are doing their homework. Of course, there have been talks in the background. With Alonso, De Zerbi and more.
“De Zerbi (has been) informed about Bayern‘s interest but no final decision yet. He’s also on the list of FC Barcelona and Bayern (are) still working on Alonso deal.”
De Zerbi is under contract with Albion until 2026 and has spoken about how he and the club could benefit in future seasons from experiences gained in the current campaign.
He told The Argus recently: “I don't work for if we are in the Europa League, I stay.
“I work for different things. I have to feel what I feel now in Brighton.
“I am proud to work here. I love my players, I love my club, I love my fans but I don’t decide my future depending on the competition we have to play.
“Football in my life is more important than the competition we have to play.
“In the morning when I wake up, I want to be happy, to be proud to work.
"And I want to be followed and listened to.”
