Lewis Dunk will hope to get more action with England – after a senior defender left the squad.

Harry Maguire was one of three players to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s group yesterday.

Dunk went on as sub against Brazil and was involved early in the move for the goal which gave the visitors their 1-0 win.

His header in midfield was intercepted by Andreas Pereira, who then sent the ball forward ahead of Endrick tapping in a rebound.

England were slow to react at the back and Endrick finished after an initial save by Jordan Pickford.

It was Dunk’s fourth appearance for England, one more than Steve Foster made in the 1980s.

An uneasy performance will not have helped his Euro 2024 ambitions.

In an Instagram message, he thanked fans for their support and said it is always an honour to play for England.

England now look forward to playing Belgium tomorrow and there are likely to be calls for Jarrad Branthwaite to be given a chance in defence.

Kyle Walker and Sam Johnstone have also left the squad through injury.

Rico Lewis, who made his debut against North Macedonia in November, has subsequently joined from the under-21s squad along with James Trafford, who receives his first senior call-up.
