Proud Albion fans belted out Sussex By The Sea and clapped their side off the pitch tonight.
But their sterling efforts on the park and in the stands were not enough to keep the club’s maiden European adventure alive.
The Seagulls beat in-form Serie A giants AS Roma 1-0 on a highly-charged night at the Amex.
But, despite an awful lot of effort and plenty of attacking play, it was not enough to match the 4-0 margin inflicted by the Giallorossi in Rome last week.
Danny Welbeck curled home a superb goal to give the Seagulls the first-half breakthrough they needed.
They will look back at a Simon Adingra header straight at keeper Mile Svilar as a key moment in the second period.
The goal now will be to take the club back into Europe next season.
They remain in the race for a Euro spot via the Premier League and now go into a 17-day gap between fixtures ahead of the trip to Liverpool at Easter.
The hope will be top scorer Joao Pedro, who watched from the West Stand last night, will be available as soon as possible for what could still be a big end to the season.
