A leading German referee has been placed in charge of Albion’s rematch with Roma.

Felix Zwayer, 42, from Berlin will take charge of the Europa League second leg at the Amex.

He heads an all-German officiating team.

Zwayer refereed the Napoli v Barcelona first leg in the current round of Champion League ties.

In recent weeks he also had the whistle for the biggest game in this season’s Bundesliga as leaders Bayer Leverkusen met Bayern Munich.

In 26 games this season, combining club and international football, Zwayer has shown 125 yellow cards and three cards.

Zwayer took up refereeing at 13 - after asking his local FA for special permission to start earlier than the minimum age of 14 - and was doing men's games four years later.

He refereed the German Cup final in his home city on his 37th birthday and was in the middle for last season's UEFA Nations League final between Spain and Croatia.

His VAR will be Bastian Dankert, who was part of the team of video officials selected for the 2018 World Cup.

Albion will have close eye on the working of VAR after querying the process when Roma's third goal was allowed to stand in the first leg.
