A referee told by Mark Clattenburg he did not know the game will take charge of Albion's date with Nottingham Forest.
Michael Salisbury has been appointed to the Premier League match at the Amex on Sunday.
Salisbury has shown two red cards in his 18 games this season, both of them during a 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane between Sheffield United and West Ham.
Clattenburg backed both those decisions as he wrote in his Daily Mail column.
But he said a late penalty call in favour of the Blades for a foul on Ollie McBurnie was “very wrong”.
Clattenburg was critical of VAR’s role in the incident but also of man-in-the-middle Salisbury.
He wrote: "This is not a foul by Alphonse Areola on Oli McBurnie.
“It is a foul by McBurnie on Areola!
“If you know football, and you know Sheffield United, and you know McBurnie, then you know he is going to try to disrupt the goalkeeper.
"He does that by launching his arm into Areola, who’s left with a bloodied lip for his troubles.
“It should be a free-kick to West Ham. Yet Salisbury awards the penalty to Sheffield United.”
Clattenburg recently took up a role as referee analyst at Forest.
Salisbury has shown 54 yellows this season and his last Albion game saw him come under fire from the home side after opting not to show a red card to Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.
The full officiating team for Albion v Nottinghm Forest is as follows.
Referee: Michael Salisbury. Assistants: Mat Wilkes, Derek Eaton. Fourth official: Rob Jones. VAR: Craig Pawson. Assistant VAR: Marc Perry.
