“Brighton’s going Rome” was the song at Craven Cottage.
But they do so on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Fulham.
Two long-time match-going fans gave us their thoughts on events at Craven Cottage and revealed how they are feeling about the Italian job ahead.
1. What were your thoughts on Albion’s performance at Fulham?
James Heasman: Although the statistics indicated that Brighton played well, in essence we didn't. Plenty of possession, but little imagination, and without the ball, literally zero positional discipline defensively. It was a poor day, by the players but even more so by the coaching team, who did not react to Fulham's adjustments. Very disappointing.
Tim Ayling: Some pretty football at times, but despite 70% possession we deserved the thumping. I don't think we ever really looked like scoring, and it's become a little predictable. The problem now is that teams know we'll gift them a goal or two, so they don't really need the ball much. We now don't look like scoring and always look like conceding... not a pleasant mix.
2. Who stood out for you from the Albion team for whatever reason?
James Heasman: Jan Paul van Hecke played well in an unfamiliar position, but one mistake apart, I thought Carlos Baleba was excellent and showed great desire and drive.
Tim Ayling: Van Hecke was probably our man of the match, and I thought Baleba was very good apart from that one horrendous back pass! It was disappointing to see some of our big players not contribute, summed up with the defending of Webster and Pervis.
3. And now for AS Roma – exciting or daunting?
James Heasman: Unfortunately, Roma have hit some good form, however after Saturday, Brighton owe the fans a performance. Regardless of the result, I think exciting. It remains a great time to be a Brighton fan, and I cannot wait until Thursday, hopefully the players embrace the experience in the right way, and bring home a good result.
Tim Ayling: Both. They're bang in form and we're not. Having said that, they're now an attacking team and that will probably help us. I also think RDZ is desperate to win in his home country, which partially explains the team selection against Fulham
