Horsham will cap what could be a 61-game season by heading to the Amex.

But boss Dom di Paola would be delighted to add to that fixture list.

Hornets are heading to the Sussex Transport Senior Cup final after beating Steyning 4-1 in the semi on Tuesday.

They came from behind to win comfortably and continue a season which has already seen them progress in the FA Cup and FA Trophy while maintaining a promotion push.

They remain in the race for a play-off place in the Isthmian premier, despite a 3-1 home defeat by Lewes.

Di Paola said: “It has been an incredible season.

“It has been relentless and in some ways I’m looking forward to the summer and a few barbecues and relaxing.

“But everyone else would give a lot to be in our position and we appreciate that.

“Over the last nine years, we have had some good things happen pretty much every season.

“It’s going to be a 61-game season as it stands but let’s hope we get more.”

Horsham are making up their games in hand and have maintained their league form despite the attractions of the FA Cup.

They are two points of the last play-off spot with three or four games in hand on teams just ahead of them.

That said, Hastings have a further game in hand on Horsham and are only two points back.

For Di Paola, the coming week will be about keeping a fit and fresh and squad but he says the demands of the FA Cup run, which ended in the second round, was not a problem.

He added: “It didn’t affect things. The hardest bit was how we were changing styles of play at the time.

“When we played Barnsley, it was a completely different stye of play to get used to and you get about an hour to work on it at training.

“But we have come out on the other side and now the challenge is to keep going game after game after game.

“That’s the challenge. But I can’t ask for more from the boys.”

Shamir Fenelon (2), Lucas Rodrigues and Jack Mazzone scored after Harry Shooman had put Steyning ahead.

Littlehampton play Hastings at Culver Road in the second semi-final on March 12.
