Jan Paul van Hecke says Albion have developed a “hard to beat” mentality – even when not at their best.

The Dutch defender saw some positives from a 1-1 draw with Everton as the Seagulls came back in added time with ten men.

While there was justifiable disappointment at dropped points, Albion have now avoided defeat more often than they have lost in 15 Premier League games in which they have trailed.

Van Hecke said: “I think we are really hard to beat and you can see that.

“Even against the strongest teams, hard teams to play against.

“When things haven’t gone our way, I think we still keep going and that’s really strong mentality from us.

“But then (on Saturday) we probably needed more points than one.”

Albion have won three and drawn five of the 15 games in which they have been behind for a haul of 14 points, the fourth best of its kind in the Prem.

They have come from behind to win at home to Bournemouth and Brentford and away to Nottingham Forest.

The Seagulls have rescued single points at home to Liverpool (a game in which they also led) and Burnley and away to Crystal Palace as well as both matches with Everton.

Lewis Dunk headed the leveller on Saturday and van Hecke would love to follow his defensive sidekick on to the score sheet for the first time.

He said: “He is better at scoring goals than me until now.

“So hopefully I can get a few also and then it’s good for me and for the team.”
