Roberto De Zerbi says it is hard to understand why Billy Gilmour will miss Albion’s next FA Cup tie.
The midfielder is banned for three domestic fixtures after his red card against Everton.
Gilmour was back at work with the squad on Monday morning as they trained ahead of the fifth-round tie at Wolves on Wednesday.
But he will not be part of the Molineux contest.
He also sits out the Prem trip to Fulham but will be available at Roma in the Europa League before missing the league game at home to Nottingham Forest.
Albion boss De Zerbi said: “For me it is difficult to understand if you receive a red card in the Premier League that you have to miss the FA Cup game.
“In Italy it is different but I respect everything.
“I took another yellow card for nothing.
“Maybe my English is not so clear and the fourth official didn’t understand my words.
“It’s not important. It’s okay.”
The disciplinary overlap in league and cup is long-standing and forms part of Albion’s history.
They infamously lost their skipper Steve Foster for the 1983 FA Cup final due to a booking picked up in a First Division game.
