Albion started brightly, finished strongly and lost momentum midway through.

The Seagulls had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Everton in the absence of injured key men and, later, the red-carded Billy Gilmour.

Two pillars of the Premier League era saved a point but this is how the home team rated.

Bart Verbruggen 7/10

Beaten by an unstoppable strike. Not an awful lot to evaluate although a strong claim of a corner under pressure and calm passing from the back remain in the memory.

Jan Paul van Hecke 7/10

Not as dominant as he has been and was lured by Beto into a rash lunge which brought a yellow card and dangerous free-kick. But still had a decent game. Albion were perhaps happy Beto did not go on earlier as he was a handful.

Lewis Dunk 8/10

Crashed an early header straight at Pickford before scoring with a majestic effort late on. Got a crucial touch on a cross bound for Calvert-Lewin and did well in his battle with the England striker.

Igor Julio 6/10

Recalled on the left of defence. Did his job in that respect and rumbled forward on one occasion but he does not offer a flying threat out wide.

Tariq Lamptey 7/10

Some lively work on the right in the early stages but, while that threat faded, his afternoon will be remembered for a fabulous goal-line clearance to deny Doucoure.

Pascal Gross 8/10

Heavily involved in a goal for the fourth game in a row. Was still scheming and creating deep into added time and went for his signature moves to create the equaliser. Is so reliable and these are the times when Albion look to him..

Billy Gilmour 6/10

Whatever the rights or wrongs of his red card, he looked unfortunate in that he caught his man while tackling for the ball. Was at his best in the opening quarter of the game before things got bogged down and the tempo slowed.

Facundo Buonanotte 7.5/10

Perhaps the under-rated performer on the day. Was at the heart of two first-half openings for Welbeck and was always looking to operate in tight areas and work space for others.

Simon Adingra 7/10

Started on his favoured left and was provided with plentiful service but not much help out wide. Twisted and turned to fire over but the threat was generally potential rather than real, including when he switched to the right.

Danny Welbeck 6.5/10

An effective part of the general play and might have scored on a couple of occasions.

Evan Ferguson 6/10

We often hear how this team is a No.9’s dream because of the chances they create so why isn’t Ferguson getting any? Had a go from outside the box and did well in the build-up to an Adingra shot but he, and Albion, must find a way to get perhaps their best finisher in where it hurts opponents.

SUBS – Pervis Estupinan 6/10

He can offer what Albion need but has not been at his best.

Ansu Fati 6.5/10

Denied by Pickford, also saw an effort he didn’t really get hold off blocked and was quite lively in looking to work a way through the massed ranks.

Joel Veltman 6/10

Generally steady at right-back. Wasn’t able to get enough on his header under pressure as Everton scored.

Julio Enciso N/A

The fairy tale return did not happen but there were some bright signs.

Adam Lallana N/A

Looked a good option to unlock the defence and he worked a decent opening for Adingra.
