Brewin’upastorm will aim to complete a hat-trick of victories in Fontwell Park’s richest race of the year.
The £80,000 Star Sports National Spirit Hurdle takes place on Sunday and the 11-year-old, trained by Olly Murphy, is one of seven entries in the prestigious race.
He was successful in 2021 and 2023 – and second in 2022.
Fourteen times champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls, who has won the race three times, has entered two horses, Blueking D’Oroux and Sonigino.
Gary Moore, the leading trainer at Fontwell Park with 290 career victories, is represented by Botox Has and Spirit D’Aunou.
Dan Skelton, who sits second in this season’s jump trainers championship race (behind Nicholls) has Proschema and West To The Bridge entered.
Fontwell Park’s executive director, Guy Pridie, said: “With the Star Sports National Spirit Hurdle raceday being our richest race and fixture of the season, it’s been a key focus of ours to try and reach more of our local community and encourage them to come and enjoy the day.
"For our diehard racing fans this is a big one, but it's also an energetic, entertaining and fantastic event for newcomers and locals to enjoy.
"Sunday fixtures at Fontwell are very popular and we want to continue to grow these days throughout the season, year on year.”
The event is named after National Spirit, a dual winner of the Champion Hurdle in the 1940s, which won five times at Fontwell Park.
It has been going on since 1965 with some high-class winners over the years including Champion Hurdle winner Beech Road, Stayers Hurdle winners Baracouda and My Way De Solzen.
Gates will open for this year’s Star Sports National Spirit Hurdle Raceday at 12.30pm with the first race starting at 2.30pm and the last race at 5pm.
Prior to action on the track, there will be live music and advanced tickets are available for £21 and children attend for free.
