Albion had a nightmare evening as a collective at Luton.

And it was hard to see any shining light or saving grace from among the individual performances.

Jason Steele 5/10

A strange one in that he was far from convincing on at least two, maybe three of the goals but also made some decent saves.

Jan Paul van Hecke 5/10

Part of the defensive chaos to a degree but also looked like he was keen to get things moving in the right direction in the second period.

Lewis Dunk 5/10

Was caused real problems at times and even a brave block only delayed the fourth goal briefly. One imagines he will have a key role in getting things back on track for the Palace game.

Igor Julio 3/10

Has not been his old self since his return to action but this was a particularly unhappy evening as he struggled to defend the left-hand side, appeared to lack concentration at times and was uncertain in possession. He is a lot better than this.

Pervis Estupiñan 3/10

There seemed to be confusion between Igor and Estupinan over who did certain defensive tasks on the left, which ended up meaning neither of them did. Gave the ball away ahead of the third goal and was taken off at half-time. Again this was a false example of what he can do and he would probably benefit from being at left-back and knowing which jobs were his.

James Milner N/A

Limped off with a bandaged thigh in the first half.

Facundo Buonanotte 4/10

Came into the match on a high but his heavy touch on the first occasion be received the ball eventually proved costly. Some nice work before Joao Pedro almost set up Welbeck was one highlight before he was taken off at the break.

Billy Gilmour 5/10

Always looks busy, which helps, but was not really an influence here as Barkley ran the show from Luton’s midfield.

Pascal Gross 5/10

Started off looking to pass and play his triangles but was left looking to protect the far post in the air on the first goal and was overshadowed and unsettled in midfield.

Joao Pedro 5/10

De Zerbi was unhappy with how he was injured. A largely ineffective evening although he did well on two openings for Welbeck.

Danny Welbeck 5/10

The one player to find some genuine space in attack and threaten a goal. Dragged a shot wide in the first half and saw his deliberately placed curler well read by the keeper:

Subs - Jack Hinshelwood 5/10

Sent on in a wide midfield role for the injured Milner but struggled to have an impact.

Tariq Lamptey 5/10

Given 45 minutes in an advanced area, which will be of benefit, but volleyed a chance wide.

Evan Ferguson 4/10

After a good performance at Bramall Lane, this was a lightweight offering. Came on in tough circumstances and never got into the game.

Carlos Baleba 5/10

Had nothing to lose in his quest to make up ground in the midfield pecking order and went on a couple of purposeful forward runs. Looked a bit unlucky to be booked for a dive.

Jakub Moder n/a

Again, good to see him get minutes but he did not raise the tone at all.
