Roberto De Zerbi said it was hard to accept the way his sorry Albion side crashed 4-0 at Luton Town.
The Seagulls were humbled by a fired-up Hatters outfit who struck twice in the first three minutes and for whom Elijah Adebayo completed a hat-trick.
It was an awful way to go into Saturday’s home game with old foes Crystal Palace, who beat Sheffield United 3-2 this evening.
De Zerbi said: “We are all responsible for this defeat.
“It is very tough to accept and to understand.
“But I think we can learn a lot from this day, this defeat.
“We have to remember very well this day, this defeat but, in the same way, we have to forget.
“We are all responsible - me first of all.
“We didn’t play. Not that we played bad – we didn’t play.”
De Zerbi said it was too early to give information on Joao Pedro, who limped off in the second half.
Luton boss Rob Edwards praised his side’s “relentless” performance and added: “If your keeper only has to make one save against Brighton, you’re doing something right.”
