Simon Adingra will remain at AFCON for the time being after Ivory Coast survived a penalty shoot out.
The Albion winger went on as sub after 64 minutes with his side 1-0 down to holders Senegal.
They came back to force a 1-1 draw, thanks to a late VAR penalty, before winning the shoot-out 5-4.
Nottingham Forest defender Moussa Niakhate was the only player to miss in the shoot-out as he hit the post
Defeat would seemingly have cleared Adingra to return to his club in time for their game against Crystal Palace.
Instead he will be involved in a quarter-final versus Mali or Burkina Faso on Saturday.
Adingra, who has returned from injury, was not required to take a spot kick.
Ivory Coast sacked their head coach and appeared to be crashing out of the tournament they are hosting when they lost 4-0 to Ecuatorial Guinea in their final group game.
But a late collapse by Ghana helped them squeeze through as the last of the four best third-placed teams.
