Albion want to help Tariq Lamptey get back to his exciting best.

The right-back or wing-back made his long-awaited return as a substitute in the 0-0 draw with Wolves on Monday.

He was warmly welcomed back by home fans and given an attacking role on the right.

But Roberto De Zerbi felt he lacked confidence and is not planning on starting him in the FA Cup tie at Sheffield United today.

De Zerbi said: “I think he is not ready to start yet.

“We are helping him reach the best of his physical condition.

“It is not so easy because he lost three-and-a-half months and his level of confidence is not so big to play.

“Against Wolverhampton he played 20, 25 minutes but it was clear he didn’t feel in the best condition, but it’s normal.

“To reach the best condition he has to play, he has to spend time on the pitch.”

De Zerbi is not expected to make wide-ranging line-up changes at Bramall Lane although he will clearly be mindful of the fact his side go to Luton Town in the league on Tuesday.

Likely changes would appear to be another switch in goal, with Bart Verbruggen coming in, and a return to the bench for Danny Welbeck and James Milner, who both started on Monday.

That, in turn, appears to make Evan Ferguson and Jakub Moder strong candidates for the initial XI.

Albion are likely to give fit-again Igor some involvement.
