History-making referee Sunny Singh Gill will take charge of Albion’s FA Cup tie at Sheffield United.
He last season became the first British South Asian to referee an EFL fixture since his dad, Jarnail Singh, who was born in India and moved with his family to Wolverhampton at a young age.
Gill works part-time as a prison officer and is the most senior referee of British South Asian heritage in the country.
He has not refereed a Premier League game but took charge of Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the third round when they played Blackpool and was fourth official for Fulham v Rotherham.
He showed two red cards this week when he took charge of MK Dons v Wimbledon in League Two.
His full tally across the competitions this term reads 29 matches, 116 yellows and five reds.
VAR will be in operation for the tie between Premier League clubs.
