Mark O’Mahony produced a majestic late header to keep Albion under-21s alive in a cup competition.

The Irish striker’s soaring finish deep into added time grabbed a 1-0 win at home to Swansea City.

The result keeps Albion alive in the Premier League 2 Cup going into the final round of group fixtures.

Swansea would have gone through with a draw and remain in pole position.

O’Mahony, the teen from Cork who has been in first-team squads, rose to power home a cross floated in by Bailey Smith.

Harry Howell had earlier forced a good save from the keeper after Samy Chouchane sent him through.

But Albion also produced big moments at the other end to set up the win.

Hugo Fisher made a couple of good saves and there were clearances from right in front of goal by Jack Hinchy and Imari Samuels.

The match was played in driving rain and high winds as Storm Jocelyn threatened the south coast.

Albion were playing into the teeth of the elements in the second half – but that could not stop O’Mahony and his thumping header.
