Albion had to settle for a 0-0 draw in their home game with Wolves.

They played some good stuff at times and, as a unit, were impressive in how they got back quickly and in numbers when their visitors threatened to counter raid.

But they were unable to really unlock their massed opponents.

Jason Steele 7/10

Mixed it up with his passing as Wolves looked to press high, giving him the chance to thread precise balls to feet. Made decent stops from Cunha and emina as part of the clean sheet.

Jan Paul van Hecke 8/10

Might have got on the end of a couple of set-pieces. Produced some uncompromising defensive work but it is with the ball where he is really progressing

Lewis Dunk 7/10

Was happy in the centre of defence but uncomfortable when dragged wide and was given real problems by Neto.

Pervis Estupinan 7/10

His left foot is being used for right-wing set-pieces and it led to Albion’s best chance for Buonanotte. Very constructive in his work in open play.

Jack Hinshelwood 7/10

In the absence of genuine attacking width, he uses those wide areas as a platform from which to move inside and do his work. Was best seen in a move with Welbeck and then when Kilman hit his own post.

Billy Gilmour 8/10

A magnet for the ball in midfield and, with the occasional exception, he used it we. Gets around the pitch busily and has become the midfield heartbeat of the side.

James Milner 6/10

Similar to Hinshelwood, is looking to make the best of that wide midfield role in his own way Got into a couple of decent positions beyond the far post.

Pascal Gross 7/10

Full of ideas in open play and a big part of some attractive build-up work which will perhaps be forgotten amid the frustration of the team failing to score. His free-kick delivery at pace almost led to a goal for van Hecke.

Facundo Buonanotte 6/10

Spent the evening looking to keep moving and create or get into pockets of space. Probably should have made the early breakthrough which have unlocked this game for his team when he made the spit-second decision to go for an awkward, stooping header as the ball reached him at the far post.

 Joao Pedro 6/10

No lack of endeavour but not really his night. Again did his best to solve that lack of wingers but that is not his natural habitat and it can lead to attacks slowing down. Was more central for a period in the second half and worked hard to find a way through massed ranks but was frustratingly unable to unload a meaningful shot when in good positions.

Danny Welbeck 6/10

Led the attack and the press and had a hint of a chance when his shot deflected over. His work to secure possession and release Joao Pedro on one occasion perhaps best summed up his role.

SUBS – Tariq Lamptey 6/10

Great to see him back and his pace was used as a way of finding a winger.

Evan Ferguson 6/10

Did some good stuff in build-up, which is an area where he has been told he can improve. But neither he nor his team-mates could work him a sight of goal, which is what was really needed here.

Adam Lallana N/A
