The officials who awarded Albion two penalties in their win over Tottenham have been praised by Howard Webb.

The PGMOL chief said there was a lot to like about the way the first of those was given with the help of VAR.

Referee Jarred Gillett was advised to check the monitor after Dejan Kulusevski pulled back Danny Welbeck.

The Albion striker was hoping to latch on to the rebound after Jan Paul van Hecke headed against the post at a corner.

Gillett informed colleagues at Stockley Park he had not had a clear view at the time and waited while VAR Peter Bankes and his assistant Simon Bennett checked replays.

The ref was then called across to see the footage on the screen.

There was also a check that Igor had not fouled goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Webb told the Mic’d Up programme: “We've heard 'sustained holding' before and it means the holding is more than a fleeting pull of the shirt, which has no impact.

"You can see Kulusevski pulls Welbeck back for some time, even in full speed. Welbeck can't get to the ball.

“There's lots I like about this clip. The fact that they are pretty decisive. They stop the game as soon as they recognise there's a need to have this reviewed.

"They check the attacking phase of play while the referee goes to the screen to speed up the process, there was clear communication and that is exactly what VAR is there for.

"This was a miss on the field by the referee, it's a clear situation, it doesn't create debate, it's absolutely a penalty and we get to the right decision."
