Craig Pawson will take charge of Albion’s home game with Wolves.

The South Yorkshire official most recently had the middle in a Seagulls fixture when they lost 3-2 at Chelsea.

The match was decided by a penalty awarded via a VAR check after Pawson had initially approved of James Milner’s challenge on Mykhaylo Mudryk.

He was advised to take another look by video ref Jarred Gillett.

The match ended amid confusion and angry scenes after a seemingly straightforward decision not to award Albion a penalty for handball became unnecessarily complicated and confusing.

Pawson has a long history refereeing the Seagulls and has taken charge of several significant fixtures down the years.

They include last season’s FA Cup semi-final, 1-0 wins at home to Manchester United and away to Tottenham and a 2-1 success at Crystal Palace.

Pawson’s total record this term shows 84 yellow cards and three reds in 17 games.

Nine of the yellows, plus the dismissal of Conor Gallagher, came in that match at Stamford Bridge.

He booked six Wolves players and five from Manchester City when the champions lost 2-1 at Molineux in September.

Peter Bankes will take the video assistant role with Dan Cook alongside him at Stockley Park.

The full officiating team for Albion v Wolves is as follows.

Referee: Craig Pawson. Assistants: Marc Perry, Steve Meredith. Fourth official: Tim Robinson. VAR: Peter Bankes. Assistant VAR: Dan Cook.
