Joao Pedro has been hailed as Albion’s talisman as he heads into 2024 as their top scorer.

The Brazil international has netted 13 times this season, including seven in the Premier League.

He has also improved his all-round game and will look to get the New Year off to a flyer at West Ham tomorrow (7.30pm).

Albion goalkeeper Jason Steele said: “He has become the team’s talisman.

“The way he plays for the team is incredible at such a young age.

“He was captain of his club previously (at Watford) so he understands mentality, he understands high-level football and what it takes.

“We are seeing that at the minute.

“And, ultimately, he gets his goals because of how hard he works for the team. Simple as that.

Joao Pedro’s goals tally has been boosted by his exploits from the spot, with four successful conversions in the league and four more in Europe.

Steele said: “You don’t get given penalties if you don’t work for the team and that is what he does week in, week out, as we all do.”

In A New Year message via social media, Joao Pedro told followers: “2023 was a year of many accomplishments and a lot of work.

“I just thank God for everything I have been through. Bring on 2024.”
