John Brooks will referee Crystal Palace v Albion – ten months after making headlines in the same fixture for the wrong reasons.

The official from Melton Mowbray will take the whistle at Selhurst Park on Thursday.

Brooks was on VAR duty for this game last season when he incorrectly disallowed a Pervis Estupinan goal for offside.

Albion received an apology after it was shown Brooks and his assistant had placed the offside line on their freeze-frame image in the wrong place.

Brooks’ five red cards this season include that shown to Mahmoud Dahoud when Albion drew with Sheffield United.

Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi had no argument with that decision but said after the game that he did not like 80% of England’s referees.

Brooks also sent off former Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma this season during Tottenham’s 1-0 win at Luton.

And he dismissed Gibraltar defender Ethan Santos early in their 14-0 defeat to France in a Euro qualifier.

The full officiating team for Crystal Palace v Albion is as follows.

Referee: John Brooks. Assistants: Lee Betts, Akil Howson. Fourth official: Simon Hooper. VAR: David Coote. Assistant VAR: Constantine Hatzidakis.
