Albion might have a little more idea of who they could face in the Europa League round of 16.

Play-off pairings were confirmed today at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

They include a tie between Albion’s Group B rivals Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi’s former club Shakhtar Donetsk.

Albion will know their last-16 opponent on February 23.

They will be paired with one of the eight winners from the play-off round and the second leg will be staged at the Amex on March 14.

Clubs from the same country cannot be drawn against each other in the last 16.

That does not directly affect Albion given there are no Premier League sides in the play-offs.

But it would increase the chances of them getting Milan, Roma, Sparta Prague or Freiburg to better than one in eight.

Milan have been paired with Rennes, who are currently 13th in Ligue Un, and Jose Mourinho’s Roma will play Feyenoord.

The Lisbon duo Sporting and Benfica will expect to get past Young Boys and Toulouse respectively.

The full play-off round draw is as follows: Feyenoord v Roma, Milan v Rennes, Lens v Freiburg, Young Boys v Sporting Clube, Benfica v Toulouse, Braga v Qarabag, Galatasaray v Sparta Prague, Shakhtar Donetsk v Marseille.
