Albion played into Arsenal’s hands, according to Match Of The Day expert pundits.

Alan Shearer and Ian Wright both questioned the Seagulls’ approach in their 2-0 defeat at the Emirates.

But Shearer recognised Roberto De Zerbi will not change his style.

The opening goal came from a corner conceded after Bart Verbruggen played a loose pass as the Gunners pressed.

Wright said: “When you look at how Brighton were playing, it called Arsenal on.

“Everybody is marked up. Can they play into the forwards?

“You’re thinking what else can they do because there is no way out.

“They are playing into Arsenal’s hands.

“It was really good play from Arsenal.”

De Zerbi likes to play from deep and often the bigger the risk, the more effective it is.

They showed that in the Carabao Cup win at the Emirates last season.

But Shearer said there was not enough variation on this occasion.

He told BBC viewers: “That’s his style, he is not going to change.

“He has been doing it all his career.

“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

“But I don’t see any harm on the odd occasion thinking, 'I’ll just change it up'.

“Why not knock it long once in a while?

"But they very rarely do it.”
