The joint top scorers in the Europa League will go head-to-head at the Amex.

But there are plenty more numbers which just build up the anticipation as Albion take on Marseille.

OM will finish top and progress to the last 16 if they win or draw, the Seagulls will do likewise if they take the three points.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Joao Pedro are join top marksmen in the competition to date with five goals apiece.

Aubameyang’s goals have come at a rate of 1.83 per 90 minutes, the second best stat of its kind in the competition.

Marseille midfielder Azzedine Ounahi averages 6.8 shots per match, second highest in the Europa.

OM also have two of the four players on four assists apiece in full-back Jonathan Clauss and the very creative Amine Harit.

Clauss has created six “big chances”, the most across the eight groups.

Only two players have forced more than one penalty – Joao Pedro with three and OM wideman Ismaila Sarr with two.

Lewis Dunk averages most successful passes per 90 minutes with 98.6.

Bart Verbruggen is the only goalkeeper in the Europa with a 100% save percentage.

That has helped Albion be one of three teams with three clean sheets in the first five rounds of fixtures, along with Bayer Leverkusen and Slavia Prague.

Marseille’s expected goals is the second highest in the groups with 12 (they have actually scored 14).

Albions xG ranks seventh at 8.9, which is about right given they have scored nine times.

Marseille average most shots on target in the competition with 7.6 per match, and no team has created more than their 15 “big chances”.

Only Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool beat the Seagulls’ 477 accurate passes per match.

Stats for average possession are surprising and perhaps instructive.

Not so much that Albion rank seventh with 56.8% (Liverpool are top).

More so in that the teams above them include West Ham on 57.4%.

Contrast that to the Premier League, where Albion are top on 62.3% and West Ham down in 16th on 41.6%.

Perhaps that is an indication of the differences between domestic and European football.

Or maybe it just tells you a lot about the strength of the Group B which the Seagulls will aim to top when it really matters on Thursday night.
