Albion have been urged to keep proving doubters wrong – and ensure their European campaign is not a one-off.

The Seagulls can clinch top spot in Europa League Group B if they beat Marseille on a huge night at the Amex on Thursday.

They have already made sure they will continue in the competition, despite losing their first match and going 2-0 down in their second.

Former striker Glenn Murray believes European football as the logical next step in the club’s progress and hopes it can be sustained.

Murray said: “I just feel it is the next chapter in the club’s history.

“We deserve to be there and hopefully it is not a one-off.

“We see clubs bounce in and out every now and again.

“Wolves have done it, Burnley have done it in recent years. West Ham have done it.

“I think in all honesty it has probably impacted their Premier League campaigns. So far it hasn’t affected ours.

“We are ahead of the points tally we had last season.

“For me, it’s about longevity and it’s about proving that we should be there year in and year out.

He added: “If somebody told me when I signed for League One Brighton that within 15 years they would be in Europe, I don’t think I would have quite have believed them so who knows?

“We have proved a lot of people wrong on this journey already and there is no reason why we can’t continue to prove people wrong.

“We have got into the knockout stages with injuries and I was really worried it would impact our Premier League campaign, being our first year in Europe.

“But that hasn’t been the case.”
