Nottingham Forest go into today’s game unbeaten in eight Premier League home fixtures.
But it is a run which should have been ended before it began.
Forest were a goal down and second best at home to Albion last season, coming off a 2-0 reverse to Manchester United at the City Ground.
The Seagulls appeared set to retain and even add to the advantage given them by Facundo Buonanotte.
But a bizarre strike deep into first-half added time appeared to surprise the two teams as much as each other.
The ball was driven in by Renan Lodi and flew off Pascal Gross to wrongfoot Jason Steele.
Kaoru Mitoma raced clear and should really have restored the Albion lead in the second half before Forest completed a 3-1 win.
Since then, they have not been toppled by the Trent in Prem action. They beat Southampton 4-3 and Arsenal 1-0 to ensure Prem status.
This season, they have beaten Sheffield United and, most recently and impressively, Aston Villa.
There have been draws with Burnley, Brentford and Luton as well as a Carabao Cup defeat by the Clarets.
Forest boss Steve Cooper believes his side could have more points than their current 13 from 12 games as they go into the Albion test and said: “We’ve got to be ready.
“They’ve got some really good players playing in the brand of football they play and we are aware of that, but we want the most influencing factor of the game to be on our contribution and on what we do.
“If we’re trying to become something and be a certain way, it’s on us to do that and you only do that by sticking to a set of principles week in, week out.”
