Albion want all players to feel involved as they tackle two fronts.

The WSL campaign goes on the back-burner tonight as West Ham visit Broadfield in the Conti Cup (7pm).

It is the second group fixture for both teams – and both made winning starts.

Albion kicked off their midweek campaign with a 2-0 success at Birmingham City.

The Conti Cup is often seen as a chance to make changes but Seagulls boss Melissa Phillips said that had also been the case in the league.

She said: “We looked at different players when we played Birmingham in the first cup game.

“But we have consistently made five subs in every single WSL match.

“We have a really deep squad.

“There have been rotations. There have often been four or five changes in the team, week to week.

“We have created a really competitive training environment.

“Ultimately, we want freshness throughout the week and everyone will be part of it.”

Meanwhile, the boss of ITV Sport has backed a trial to allow women’s football to be screened live during the traditional Saturday afternoon blackout.

Baroness Campbell, the Football Association’s director of women’s football, told the Culture, Media and Sport committee in July that various options are being looked at to maximise coverage of the women’s game on the back of the England team’s recent success.

She said one of those is giving consideration to whether the women’s game could be removed from the restriction on live football coverage between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on Saturdays.

Niall Sloane, ITV’s director of sport, told the same committee on Tuesday: “I think the three o’clock space is one that should be utilised, because where else can women’s football fit into a weekend?”
