Albion striker Evan Ferguson is back in action after a brief injury lay-off.

But he will look forward to re-acquainting himself with the football when he returns to club duty.

Ferguson started for the Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2024 qualifier away to Holland this evening.

He played the first 55 minutes and touched the ball just 15 times as the hosts dominated much of the contest.

Ferguson missed Albion’s draw with Sheffield United through injury but was passed fit for a quick return to the Johan Cruyff Arena, where he played in the Europa League nine days ago.

Bart Verbruggen played in goal for the Dutch and had a moment of fortune when he allowed the ball to squirm under his body and over the line after a shot from Adam Idah, who was then flagged offside.

Andrew Moran, the Albion midfielder on loan to Blackburn, was on the bench for the Republic and could make his debut when they host New Zealand in a friendly on Tuesday.

Holland have now qualified for the Euros and play Gibraltar – beaten 14-0 by France this evening - at the Estadio Do Algarve in Portugal.
