Horsham went out of the FA Cup with pride intact and fans showing their colours.
But boss Dom di Paola was disappointed they allowed the first-round replay at home to Barnsley to slip out of their grasp so soon.
All the scosing in Hornets’ 3-0 defeat came in the first half-hour.
Nicky Cadden and John McAtee scored inside ten minutes as crosses were not dealt with.
McAtee lobbed the third on 27 minutes.
Horsham were much more of a threat in the second half and gave their supporters in a 3,000 sell-out plenty to enjoy, albeit without the goal they would have loved.
Di Paola said: “I’m gutted really. I think the first ten minutes just killed us to be honest.
“We just didn’t come out well and they came out very sharp.
“You’ve got a mountain to climb. I’m just disappointed because I thought we played quite well.
“But I thought the boys were excellent. They gave everything they could.”
